Hello. My name is Hajin Choi.
I create interactions that facilitate communication between people, information, and system.
I'm graduating in December 2010 with a master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction
at Carnegie Mellon University where I also earned the BFA in Communication Design.
I'm currently seeking for a job in the field of User Experience and/or Interaction Design.
My interest lies in Interface and Information Design because I'm excited about...

1) creating means for people to have effective, pleasant and enriching experiences in getting their job done and interacting with others, and
2) dealing with complexity and turning raw data and resources to something purposeful and meaningful.

I consider problems are opportunites.
Born in Seoul, Korea, have
called Pittsburgh home for four years now/Soft-spoken and extremely optimistic/Love walking aimlessly in nice weather while listening to music/Enjoy alone time as well as good convo with good company/Drink lots of coffee/Laugh a lot :)
I'm fascinated by how well-conceived designs,
coupled with technologies, can bring benefits to our everyday lives.
When solving problems, I always try to grasp the holistic picture and the details using my analytic and intuitive mind with right balance.
Pause Before You Buy
Campaign Design Against Impulsive Buying
CHALLENGE
Under a broad theme of "when less is more", I had to create a campaign and its materials, including print and time-based pieces to get my message across.
QUESTIONS
How can I create a visual system that is cohesive and yet flexible enough to be applied to different media (i.e. various print and motion pieces)?
SOLUTION
"Pause Before You Buy" is a campaign targeted to young females that encourages them to stop impulsive buying. I came up with a tool kit that is composed of three print pieces and an accompanying flash movie that portrays the moment of making a purchase decision. With these materials, I wanted to get people to ask themselves questions that would regauge their needs and wants and to help them spend their money with moderation.
Campaign Logo
I used a comma and a dollar sign for the logo which convey the point of the campaign in a visually succinct manner.
Print Pieces
Each of three print pieces respectively takes a form of a bill, a credit card and a check book. They provide a space for people to write their own strategies in curving impulsive buying to make them more personal.

PROCESS
I explored different ways to combine a dollar sign and a comma, trying to give them a naturally unified form.
I used textures and graphic elements from bills and played with different colors.
I made a few mock-ups for the print pieces to find the right size and folding method.
